Friends and family members are skeptical about supposed sightings of missing Illinois mom Stacy Peterson around the country, reports the Chicago Tribune. Husband Drew Peterson claims to have an unsigned letter, which he turned over to police yesterday, saying she was seen in a Peoria grocery store, and a tip line has had a call saying she was spotted in Florida. Doubts were quickly cast on both sightings. 

"I'm sure Stacy looks like a lot of people," said a family spokeswoman. An expert in finding missing persons said such leads are common in high-profile cases, but rarely bear fruit. As clouds of suspicion continue to gather over Drew Peterson, the ex-cop told People magazine that he was steeling himself for his possible arrest.  (More Drew Peterson stories.)
