Iowa Congressman Fights Off Burglar

Apparently Leonard Boswell is the wrong guy to try to rob. An armed intruder broke into the US representative’s Iowa farmhouse this weekend, only to discover that Boswell and his family were home. Boswell, a 77-year-old army veteran, made a grab for the burglar’s gun, the Des Moines Register reports. After a brief scuffle, Boswell’s 22-year-old grandson appeared with a shotgun, scaring the burglar off.

“The whole incident only lasted about a minute, and they all feel very fortunate,” Boswell’s chief of staff says. “They just had some scrapes and bruises. No one has to go to the hospital or anything like that. Just a couple Band-Aids going around.” The burglar hasn’t been caught yet, though the county sheriff says there are several suspects. He said he doubts Boswell was specifically targeted, suspecting it was a random break-in. (More Leonard Boswell stories.)
