James Franco finally opens up about his much-derided Oscars hosting gig, revealing to Playboy that he had a bad feeling about it early on. "It's hard to talk about because it's like assigning blame—not a fun thing to do," he says. "In the last week, when we really started focusing on the script for the live show and did a run-through, I said to the producer, 'I don't know why you hired me, because you haven't given me anything. I just don't think this stuff's going to be good.'"
In fact, he was so upset about a bit that required him to dress as Marilyn Monroe, he considered deliberately falling onstage and, hopefully, causing his dress to fall off, the Huffington Post reports. "They couldn't blame that on me; I was in high heels." He adds that better material was written by others, including Judd Apatow, but was never used. As for the "low energy" he displayed throughout the show? He insists he was simply acting as the "straight man" to enthusiastic co-host Anne Hathaway.
