Proving once again that professional male athletes and the fair sex do not mix—yet always do anyway—eight Mexican soccer players have been benched for the Copa Americana tournament for the sin of bringing women to their team hotel, CNN reports. The men, who were caught with the women after a game, have been slapped with a 6-month suspension and a $4,000 fine each. “The players already confessed and are full of remorse. They have apologized to the team, the supporters, the technical commission, and to the federation and have said they'll take responsibility for their actions,” says an official.
Mexico won the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament this month in the US; for July's Copa America tournament in Argentina, it has replaced the eight men with players from Mexican clubs. (More Mexico stories.)
