This twists of this college football season have the BCS on alert. Commissioners in the six BCS conferences will expand the pool of at-large candidates for the major bowl games to 18 if final regular-season rankings make it necessary, reports ESPN.com. Currently, the top 14 teams in the rankings are eligible for possible spots in the National Championship game, Rose, Sugar, Orange and Fiesta Bowls.
The problem is that only two teams from one conference can be in one of those five major bowl games. Currently four Big 12 teams, three SEC and 3 Pac-10 teams hold spots in the top 14, meaning 4 of those teams could get left out of one of the big games. A couple of upsets in the ACC or the Big East in coming weeks, and not only could more than one non-BCS schools slip in, but there may not be enough qualifying teams to fill all the slots.
