There’s a strong argument that politicians in general shouldn’t resign in the wake of sex scandas, writes Steve Kornacki of Salon: “Sure, life is hell for a few days—or even a few weeks—and it seems like the media will never stop covering you, but then … they eventually do.” And Anthony Weiner could probably win reelection, assuming his district isn’t cut up in redistricting. But there’s a strong argument that Weiner should probably pack it in anyway.
“Consider that Weiner has really only been using his congressional seat for two reasons: 1) to position himself to run for mayor of New York City; and 2) to play the role of wisecracking, Republican-bashing cable news all-star,” Kornacki observes. “And now, he can’t do either.” Weiner would have to just keep his head down and legislate—and he’s shown “little interest in the nuts-and-bolts work that comes with serving in Congress.” Click for the full column.
