Perhaps one of the most mystifying parts of the whole Anthony Weiner crotch-shot scandal is that he has a smart, successful, smokin' hot, 12-years-younger, (and "way too good for him," some say) wife. The Daily Beast, ABC News, and the New York Times all take a closer look at Huma Abedin, the glamorous and elegant Hillary Clinton aide he married 11 months ago—with Bill Clinton serving as officiant. Though Weiner insisted "we will weather this," Abedin put in a full day at the State Dept. instead of standing by her husband's side when he offered his mea culpa yesterday.
Abedin, a practicing Muslim who speaks fluent Arabic and grew up in Saudi Arabia, always seemed like an odd match for the Jewish Weiner—a loud, media-courting playboy to her discreet, private persona. Though she was considered a catch and had many suitors when Weiner started pursuing her in 2008, his persistence eventually won out. Abedin, seen as notoriously unflappable by Washington insiders, has served as one of Clinton's most trusted aides for 15 years but has also appeared in Vogue and is close friends with Oscar de La Renta. The big question now is how she'll react, but one thing is almost certain: She's probably consulting her boss. Click for one imaginary version of that conversation. (More Anthony Weiner stories.)
