Teen Sells Kidney for iPad 2

What would you do for an iPad 2? Probably not what one Chinese teen did: The 17-year-old boy sold one of his kidneys for about $3,000 so he could afford the device. The teen confessed to his mother after arriving home with "a laptop and a new Apple handset"—plus an angry red scar and complications from the surgery, she says. The teen saw an online advertisement offering cash for organs; such trades are common in China despite government attempts to stamp them out.

The boy had his kidney removed at a local hospital and was discharged after three days, but the hospital said it had contracted out the urology department to a businessman and denied knowledge of the procedure, according to local reports cited by the Telegraph. (More iPad stories.)
