Ed Schultz apologized last night for calling conservative radio host Laura Ingraham a “right-wing slut,” and said he has offered to take an “indefinite” break from his MSNBC show without pay. In what Mediaite calls “a remarkably fulsome and sincere apology,” Schultz acknowledged that he used “vile and inappropriate language” and apologized not only to Ingraham, but also to his wife and family for embarrassing them and failing to set an example. “I have been in this business since 1978 and I’ve made a lot of mistakes—this is the lowest of low for me,” he said, and promised to “never use those words again.”
Mediaite notes that Ingraham’s response was “good-humored, if clichéd.” She posted on Facebook, “I was surprised to learn that Ed Schultz actually hosted a radio show. Is it only available online?” and called his comments crude and misogynistic. (More Ed Schultz stories.)
