Gingrich Owed Tiffany's More Than $250K

Newt Gingrich owed Tiffany jewelers up to $500,000 in 2005 and 2006, House financial disclosures reveal—and it’s not clear whether he’s paid it off yet. Though Gingrich left the House in 1999, his wife worked for the House Agriculture Committee until 2007, and thus filed the 2005 and 2006 disclosures. The debt, listed between $250,001 and $500,000, was labeled as Newt’s. A rep wouldn’t comment when Politico asked whether Gingrich still owed the money.

The money was listed under a “revolving charge account,” which, according to an Ethics Committee manual, is a credit card. The 2006 disclosure form said the couple’s assets were between $1 million and $2.5 million.
