UK Offers FarmVille ... on Actual Farm

Addicted to FarmVille? Now you can play the game on an actual farm—without leaving home. Britain’s National Trust is offering up an estate to be run by gamers, using a program called MyFarm. Users—there’s room for 10,000—make choices on which crops to plant, what machinery to use, and what to do about livestock. But they won’t have total control: a farm manager will give gamers lists of options. That means no marijuana plants, Fast Company notes.

Users will also get some farming education through actual farmers’ videos and blogs. Because it’s a real farm, it could be years before users see the results of their choices—as opposed to the hours it takes on FarmVille. And it remains to be seen what the farm will do if users, say, kill a cow. It’s not clear how many have already signed up, but “I think it's fair to say we're exceeding expectations,” says a rep.
