Conservatives around the country have tried to limit abortion in all kinds of creative ways, but Louisiana Rep. John LaBruzzo is cutting to the chase. The “unapologetically pro-life’ Republican has introduced a bill that would ban abortion outright, with no exception made for cases of rape, incest, or when the health of the mother is in danger, Mother Jones reports. Aborting a baby would punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
As currently written, the bill would subject both doctors and their patients to that prison term, under the charge of “feticide.” But LaBruzzo intends to write the term out of the bill—he calls its inclusion a “misdraft” that “would make [the bill] too difficult to pass.” LaBruzzo’s goal is to get the law passed, and then “immediately go to court,” in a full-blown attempt to get Roe v. Wade overturned. (More abortion stories.)
