Rescuers worked through the night and were still at it today, but a man trapped in an Idaho mine since Friday remains underground. A remote-controlled digging machine was brought in today, the AP reports, but it must be disassembled and then reassembled more than a mile below ground, and it’s not yet clear how long that will take. Larry Marek, a 30-year mining veteran, was working in the Lucky Friday silver mine when a tunnel roof collapsed Friday, trapping him more than a mile underground.
Officials have not been able to contact Marek, 53, and his condition is not known. His brother, who was working in the mine at the same time, made it out uninjured. (More mine stories.)
