You knew this was coming: Katie Couric and Matt Lauer are talking about teaming up again, a source tells the Wall Street Journal. The former Today co-hosts are considering a new daytime talk show, though talks may or may not progress. Couric's CBS Evening News contract expires in early June, and her next move will likely be a daytime talk show debuting in fall of 2012, sources say. Meanwhile, Lauer is still under contract with Today until the end of 2012.
Jeff Zucker, who was a Today producer during the Couric-Lauer reign, is one of those who wants to see them reunited. But, the source says, in order for it to happen, "a lot of complicated machinations" will have to occur. For one, NBC will likely do whatever it can to keep Lauer at Today, especially since his co-host Meredith Vieira is likely leaving. In semi-related news, Regis Philbin is also eyeing his own new show; click here for more on that. (More Katie Couric stories.)
