A Reagan-era Justice Department official has drafted an article of impeachment for President Obama, arguing that by intervening in Libya without congressional approval, he crossed a legal line. “Barack Hussein Obama has mocked the rule of law, endangered the very existence of the Republic and the liberties of the people, and perpetrated an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor,” Bruce Fein wrote in his 15-page argument.
Fein heads up the American Freedom Agenda, a conservative group opposed to the expanding powers of the executive branch. He worked on Bill Clinton’s impeachment, and called for the impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney as well. Though he hardly represents the Republican mainstream, his call could energize some on Capitol Hill already critical of Obama’s Libya invasion. Fein tells Politico that there has
"definitely been interest on the Hill" in his proposal; "There's at least two dozen who have been open to the idea that this is a serious constitutional crisis." (More Barack Obama stories.)
