The Fox News reporter embroiled in a nasty spat with a CNN correspondent over a discredited story has been called the "laziest reporter I've ever met" by an aide. Steve Harrigan has been accused of inaccurately saying that Libyan officials used journalists as "human shields" during a press trip to a bomb site. CNN's Nic Robertson, who was at the site, blasted the story as "outrageous." Harrigan himself didn't visit the bomb site; Fox instead sent a security guard with a camera. That's no surprise to a writer who once worked with Harrigan in Venezuela, and called him the "most noxious, laziest reporter I've ever met."
Harrigan was determined to get one story out of that country the easiest way possible, writer Sacha Feinman tells Gawker. "They said they wanted to do a piece on how Chavez was 'Fidel Castro' with money, which isn't that surprising, since it's Fox," said Feinman. But he refused a 6-hour bus ride to pose a question to Chavez. "Harrigan didn't want to leave the hotel unless it was for an interview with an anti-Chavista. His attitude was, 'the story is going to accommodate me, I'm not going to hustle to get the story,'" said Feinman. Robertson has said he sees Harrigan at hotel breakfasts more than in the field. Harrigan has blasted Robertson as "dull," and says he's less "of a man." For more on that, click here. (More Nic Robertson stories.)
