Looks like pastor Terry Jones finally got his Koran burning. A copy of the Muslim holy book was torched in a small Florida church by pastor Wayne Sapp yesterday, but Jones oversaw the event, AFP reports. Jones, of course, gained notoriety last year with his (abandoned) plan to burn a pile of Korans on Sept. 11. Yesterday's Koran burning was presented as a trial, in which a jury deliberated for eight minutes and found the book "guilty," determining it must be "executed."
The kerosene-soaked Koran was then placed on a metal tray and ignited with a barbecue lighter. It burned for about 10 minutes while some of the fewer than 30 onlookers took photos. Jones said last year, after abandoning his Koran-burning plan, that he would never follow through with it. But now he says he has been "trying to give the Muslim world an opportunity to defend their book" and never got an answer. (More Terry Jones stories.)
