The father of a boy murdered in Rhode Island 36 years ago says he will kill his son's murderer if he wins early release. Michael Woodmansee killed 5-year-old Jason Foreman in 1975. He kept the boy's shellacked bones in his bedroom for years, only confessing to the killing in 1982, when he was arrested for trying to strangle the local paperboy. He was sentenced to 40 years, but could be released as soon as August because of a prison system that takes 10 days a month off sentences as a reward for good behavior, the Providence Journal reports.
"If this man is released anywhere in my vicinity, or if I can find him after the fact, I do intend to kill this man," John Foreman told a local radio station. He says he blames himself for accepting a plea deal that spared the family the pain of a trial. "I'm to blame for all that and I'll make that right," he said. "I cannot think; I cannot sleep. All I think about is trying to find a way to get to this man to kill him." A spokesman for the state attorney general says he is outraged that Woodmansee may be released early and he is looking into ways to keep him locked up. (More Rhode Island stories.)
