Barack Obama got a little help from an unlikely ally today in Florida, when Jeb Bush appeared with him at a speech promoting the administration's education agenda at Miami Central High School, the AP reports. Bush introduced Obama, saying that education shouldn't be a partisan issue. Obama shook his hand, then took over. "Aside from being a former governor of this great state, Jeb of course is best known as being the brother of Marvin Bush," he said, garnering a laugh from the audience.
But then Obama turned serious, and even praised the entire Bush family. "I've gotten to know Jeb because his family exemplifies public service, and we are so grateful to him for the work that he's doing on behalf of education," Obama said. He then spoke about the new education spending he's pushing in his 2012 budget proposal. "I do not accept failure here in America," he said. "It's time to come together, just like Jeb and I are doing today ... to lift up all of our schools." (More Barack Obama stories.)
