Other Blade Runner movies could be here in time for 2019, the year when the 1982 sci-fi classic takes place. Production company Alcon Entertainment says it's in the final stages of talks to acquire the rights to make prequels and sequels based on the settings and characters of the original, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The deal won't include the right to remake Blade Runner itself, and there's no word on whether director Ridley Scott or star Harrison Ford will be involved.
"This is a major acquisition for our company, and a personal favorite film for both of us," Alcon's co-heads said in a statement. "We recognize the responsibility we have to do justice to the memory of the original with any prequel or sequel we produce." (More Blade Runner stories.)
