Dana Milbank: Sarah Palin Wasn't Missed in February

As you might recall, Dana Milbank heroically confronted his Sarah Palin addiction last month, by swearing off mentioning everyone’s favorite maverick hockey mom for all of February. How did it go? “The tremors and sweats were manageable,” he reports in the Washington Post. "I used Michele Bachmann as my methadone." At first, he was terrified Palin might announce her presidential run during his moratorium. But then he saw a fateful Fox News bulletin: “Sarah Palin has issued a tweet,” the anchor announced.

“It was then I realized I had nothing to worry about,” Milbank writes. “Palin was not going to make real news in February, or, most likely, at any other time. At most, she was going to make noise—enough to earn that $1 million Fox pays her.” That’s not to say there wasn’t some dang tempting noise, like her shot at Michelle Obama over breastfeeding, or that juicy leaked book. “No doubt, I sacrificed many Web clicks,” he says. But “was it a good tradeoff? You betcha!” (More Sarah Palin stories.)
