An early test of the new Egypt is emerging today as pro-democracy leaders predict that a million people will join a victory march through Cairo to celebrate the fall of Hosni Mubarak. Organizers are urging people to join the march to "protect the revolution and its demands," the BBC reports. Mubarak's supporters, however, plan to hold a counter-demonstration to apologize to the ousted leader for the way he was treated and celebrate his achievements, reports Reuters.
"We will welcome everyone to the new Egypt. A new country that started in Tahrir Square — a country of unity, peace, freedom and justice for all," said a protest organizer. Life in Egypt has yet to return to normal after Mubarak's fall a week ago, with banks still closed and widespread labor unrest. Egyptian prosecutors have arrested four former officials from Mubarak's government as part of a corruption investigation, CNN reports. (More Egypt stories.)
