Almost 10,000 infants are injured in crib and playpen accidents every year, researchers have concluded, after studying 19 years of ER data. The injuries generally hit 1- and 2-year-old toddlers who were just big enough to try to climb out, the AP reports. Researchers recommend more safety measures, although they note that recent changes in crib designs—like the ban on drop-side cribs—were already gradually reducing those numbers. Still, even in recent years, 26 infants have been injured daily in such accidents annually. “That’s still not acceptable,” the study’s lead author says. (More babies stories.)
