Ten States Losing Smart People

Some states are not keeping up with the others in regard to education. Declining math and reading scores, lower numbers of people with post-secondary degrees, and loss of white-collar workers all imply a decrease in "smart people" compared to the rest of the country. A look at the states in worst shape, from 24/7 Wall St:

• Utah: It has the fifth-worst increase in the nation for adults with bachelor’s degrees from 2000 to 2009. It also has one of the worst changes in people with advanced degrees.
• Texas: Although test scores are up in Texas, the number of people with high school diplomas has decreased. The percentage of people with white-collar jobs has also decreased by 3%.
• Iowa: Reading scores in Iowa decreased from 2000 to 2009 at the third greatest rate in the country. It also underwent the second worst change in math scores.
