The Huffington Post's sale to AOL for $315 million—and the estimated $18 million to $100 million Arianna Huffington made on the deal—has left the news site's unpaid contributors wondering where their piece of the pie is, the Daily notes. "My share of the Huffington Post sale, zero dollars, was a little disappointing," tweeted comedian Andy Borowitz.
"When it was just the HuffPo, I was happy to contribute for free because it felt like this really great, new, fresh project, like I was a part of something important," says one Tel-Aviv based writer, who is now not so keen on bringing business to "a corporate giant" free of charge. The writers shouldn't hold their breath waiting for paychecks, the New York Observer notes: contributors have been told that the only change they'll notice is more readers.
