Enterprising Hawaii lawmakers say they've found a way to silence "birthers" while filling state coffers. Democratic state lawmakers have introduced a bill that would allow anybody to obtain President Obama's birth records for a fee of $100, AP reports. The bill would require changing a privacy law that bars the release of birth records to anybody without a tangible interest, like a close family member.
"If the people are so concerned about Barack Obama and if he was actually born in Hawaii, born in the United States, let them pay a fee of 100 bucks,” said Rep. John Mizuno, one of the measure's co-sponsors. “We can certainly use the money, and we don't need to hear their complaining anymore." (More Hawaii stories.)
