Move aside, Jamal Lewis, there's a new holder of the single-game rushing record, and he's a rookie. In a spectacular performance, Adrian Peterson ran over, around, and through the San Diego Charger defense on the way to 296 yards in only his 8th pro game, one yard better than the mark Lewis set four years ago. He also became the first rookie to rush for more than 200 yards at least twice in a single season.
Peterson racked up 253 of those yards in the second half alone, when he also scored 2 of his 3 TDs on the day as the Vikings came back from a 14-7 deficit and cruised to a 33-17 win at home. His effort overshadowed another record: the longest score in NFL history, set on the final play of the first half when SD's Antonio Cromartie caught a missed 57-yard FG by the Vikes' Ryan Longwell deep in his own endzone, and ran it back 109 yards for a touchdown.
