Grisly slaying in New York City: Employees at a posh Times Square hotel found the body of a Portuguese TV journalist and gay activist in his room. Carlos Castro, 65, had been bludgeoned in the head and castrated, and police arrested his young companion—a male model who had been on a reality search show in Portugal—at a nearby hospital where he had sought treatment for cuts and bruises, including slit wrists, reports the New York Post.

Friends tell the Daily News that the two men could be heard arguing prior to the murder in their InterContinental hotel room. Later, the friends said they saw the companion, Renato Seabra, in the hotel. "He never expected to see us in the lobby and he told us, 'Carlos isn't leaving the room,'" said one. "This answer surprised us and we told the hotel manager."
