A lawless Mexican town is now left without a police force after the last cop in town was kidnapped and likely killed. Officer Erika Gandara was snatched and her house torched last week by suspected drug cartel gunmen. All of her colleagues had already quit or been killed in Guadelupe's raging drug wars. Gandara, 28, had patrolled the town of 9,000 on her own since June, the BBC reports. Guadalupe is just three miles from the US border and 40 miles from drug violence hotspot Ciudad Juarez. Some 30,000 people have been killed in Mexico in drug-related violence since 2006.
