A diplomat describes Anna Nicole Smith as a “Category 4 Hurricane” rampaging through the Bahamas, and two months later the government falls: coincidence? Maybe, but newly leaked WikiLeaks cables suggest that the former Playmate did more damage to the government than you might expect. In her wake she left “the Coroner's Court, the Department of Immigration, … formerly popular Minister of Immigration Shane Gibson, and possibly Prime Minister Christie's PLP government” in disarray.

The cables, first published in the Guardian, describe controversy relating to Smith’s suspiciously rapid achievement of permanent residency, which led to Gibson’s resignation after allegations emerged that he was receiving money and favors from Smith—and then pictures emerged of him in her bed. "The Anna Nicole scandal has recast Gibson as puppet of the privileged rather than defender of the common people of The Bahamas,” reads one cable. The AP has more.
