A pair of explosions in central Stockholm yesterday killed one and injured two, the Guardian reports. A Swedish news agency was warned of the blasts minutes before they occurred; an email linked the attacks to Sweden’s military presence in Afghanistan, as well as a Swedish artist’s cartoons of the prophet Mohammed, which were printed in a Danish newspaper. “We are investigating this as terror crimes according to Swedish law,” police said.
An explosion in a car holding gas canisters went off in the late afternoon near a popular shopping area; two received minor injuries. After a second explosion nearby, authorities discovered a dead man, reportedly carrying pipe bombs and a backpack filled with nails. One witness reported “blood coming out in the area of his belly.” Another noted “no injuries to his face or the rest of his body and the shops around him were not damaged.”
