The Double Down it's not: A French fast-food chain will sell a cheap foie gras burger, mixing high and low cuisine for a brief holiday promotion, Reuters reports. Consumers will be able to get a bit of duck liver in a conventional hamburger for about $6.50—a steal for the normally luxe spread.
Foie gras has earned the wrath of animal rights groups because of how it's produced: Farmers force-feed the ducks (or geese) corn mash to swell their livers. The company, Quick, dismisses the controversy, saying foie gras is a traditional part of Christmas celebrations in France. "We want to give our clients great taste at cheap prices and give them the possibility to party a little ahead of time," said the marketing director.
