Who's your daddy? Apparently, for many Americans, it's Rush Limbaugh. The Mouth tops Newsweek's "Power List" of the most influential political personalities in America, which is based on earnings as an indication of clout. Limbaugh pulled in an estimated $58 million last year, more than $22 million ahead of his closest contender, Glenn Beck. He's millions ahead of President Obama, who ranks 19th. Conservatives in general rake in far bigger bucks than the liberals: Jon Stewart, at No. 5, is tagged as the highest ranking leftish figure, having raked in some $15 million last year.
Sarah Palin is right behind him with a $14 million take, and is the highest ranking woman on the list. Newsweek considered all income streams "related to politics," including broadcast income, book advances, a nd speaking and consulting fees. "In the oversaturated, hypercommodified media culture of 2010, the most influential political figures are generally the ones who make the most money peddling their perspectives," notes Newsweek.
