CIA Chief: Everybody Stop Leaking Stuff

CIA chief Leon Panetta has sent a memo to employees of the nation's spy agency warning them that leaks of classified information "cannot be tolerated." Panetta warned that "a damaging spate of media leaks on a wide range of national security issues" has endangered lives and compromised sources, the Washington Post reports. He told employees that the agency plans to fully investigate WikiLeaks' recent release of CIA documents.

"When information about our intelligence, our people, or our operations appears in the media, it does incredible damage to our nation's security and our ability to do our job of protecting the nation," Panetta wrote, warning that the agency is taking a hard line on the issue. The CIA director left the message unclassified, possibly because a similar memo from Director of National Intelligence James Clapper in August ended up being leaked to the media within hours.
