France's beloved former sex kitten Brigitte Bardot is threatening to run for the French presidency since leader Nicolas Sarkozy "took me for an imbecile" over her demands for animal rights. The Ecology Alliance party has asked the 76-year-old star to run for France's top slot in 2012. "We think she is the best person to represent us for the presidency," the party's chairman told the Telegraph. "If she accepts, a final decision will be taken next year."
Ecology Alliance campaigns for animal rights and against the ritual slaughter of animals by Muslims for halal meat. Bardot is demanding animals be stunned before their throats are slit, which is required under Islamic religious law. She pleaded with Sarkozy in a letter to "defend animals as neither the Right nor the Left give a damn!" But "Sarkozy took me for an imbecile by making promises he didn't keep," she said. Bardot has come under heavy criticism in the last few years for comments denigrating gays and immigrants; click here for more.
