A new poll of Hispanic voters brings a serious dose of good news/bad news for Democrats. The good: Latino voters overwhelmingly favor Democrats over Republicans, 65% to 22%. The bad: It doesn't matter because they probably won't vote. Only 51% or registered Hispanics tell the Pew Hispanic Center that they will definitely go to the polls, reports the New York Times. That's compares to 70% of all registered voters.
In other words, if Democrats hoped to get a bump from Hispanics enraged over Arizona's immigration law, they can probably forget it. A lack of overall progress on immigration reform seems to have left them disillusioned. At the same time, the Times notes that the opposing side in the immigration debate has no such malaise. “Every day I get calls from candidates,” says Arizona's Sheriff Joe Arpaio, referring to requests for his endorsement.
