Robert Gibbs could shift from White House press secretary to chair of the Democratic National Committee, reports Politico, which says party "insiders" have already begun floating the proposal. The shuffle would likely happen next year, in time for Gibbs to take over ahead of the 2012 re-election run. Current DNC chief Tim Kaine is expected to take a top administration post, perhaps a Cabinet position.
The move would “put the Obama imprimatur on the DNC, once and for all,” an anonymous official tells Politico. "It’s a brilliant idea if he ends up deciding he wants to do it.” If it happens, one of Gibbs' first tasks would be to kiss and make up with those he scorned as the "professional left."
