The bomb scare that required a Pakistani passenger jet with 273 people aboard to make an emergency landing in Stockholm was apparently a hoax. Authorities diverted the plane, which took off from Toronto, after getting a tip that a man aboard had explosives. He turned out to be clean and cooperated with authorities in a "calm but irritated" manner, one official tells AP. He's described only as a Canadian citizen born in 1982.
As for the tip, it was phoned in by a "woman in Canada," and a sergeant with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police suggested she did so out of spite. "If the information is deemed to be a hoax, the person who passed along that information can be charged for public mischief," said another RCMP official. (More Stockholm stories.)
