Experts Swarm Bedbug Summit

These are boom times in the bedbug control business and dozens of scientists, exterminators, and inventors have flocked to a summit this week on dealing with the resurgent pest. At the first-ever North American Bedbug Summit, being held in a suburban Chicago hotel, dozens of vendors displayed ways to trap, poison, fry, freeze, or suffocate the bloodsucking pests, the New York Times reports.

Seminars at the summit offer tips on finding bedbugs and debates on the merits of fumigation. Along with the scientists and the bedbug hunters, some of whom had bedbug-sniffing dogs in tow, there are plenty of bedbugs at the event, sealed tight in jars for display purposes. "You know these are entomologists and these are the professionals in the industry," a hotel exec said. "If anyone knows how to contain them, then it's going to be them."
