Iran on Execution of Va. Woman: US Is a Hypocrite

For those in New York protesting Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's policies today (like the decision to stone a woman accused of adultery to death), Iran has fired back with the old "You're a hypocrite." Seems Tehran thinks Virginia opting to execute Teresa Lewis, a woman with a low IQ who conspired to murder her husband, isn't much different than an Iranian court's hugely controversial decision to sentence Sakineh Mahammadi Ashtiani to death by stoning on adultery charges.

Denouncing the "double standards" of the US, an Iranian MP tells the Guardian, "We will file an official complaint to the international community against the US if the sentence is administered." Iran, for the record, has backed off the stoning sentence, but has indicated the death penalty is still an option for Ashtiani—much to international outcry.
