Michael Bloomberg is going on a Palin-like endorsement streak—only instead of endorsing Tea Partiers and conservatives, he’s backing moderates from both parties. Among his beneficiaries: Meg Whitman, Harry Reid, Lincoln Chafee, and Joe Sestak. Bloomberg says he's looking for candidates who aren't bound by rigid ideology, and are willing to reach across the aisle. Tea Partiers need not apply; he considers the movement a fad.
“Look, people are angry … Washington isn’t working,” the mayor tells the New York Times. “Anger, however, is not a government strategy. It’s not a way to govern.” The campaign has revived speculation that Bloomberg harbors presidential ambitions. “He has a very wide appeal,” said one GOP strategist. “People see him not through a Democratic or Republican prism, but through a results, grown-up, get-it-fixed, make-it-work prism.” (More Michael Bloomberg stories.)
