Activists Fume Over Facebook Crackdown

Mark Zuckerberg may say he's all about making the world more open, but that world does not include certain sections of his own site, activists claim. A group called Boycott Target Until They Cease Funding Anti-Gay Politics tells Politico that certain sections of their page, including discussion threads and updates, were disabled for political reasons. “It slices the vocal cords,” says the group's organizer.

The administrators of a BP boycott page feel similarly stifled. The crackdown on their page "smells fishier than the gulf to me,” a supporter wrote. But the good folks at Facebook say this type of campaign is just not Facebook appropriate. "We restrict Pages that represent ideas or positions—rather than discrete entities—from publishing stories to people's News Feeds,” a rep says. Click here to read Zuck's latest thoughts on privacy.
