McConnell: Freeze All Tax Rates

John Boehner might vote to extend middle-class tax cuts while letting those on the top 2% expire, but Mitch McConnell wants them frozen—across the board, no ifs, ands, or buts. Saying Americans have "had it" with Dems' "fiscal recklessness," the Senate majority leader today introduced legislation to ensure "no one in this country will pay higher taxes next year than they are right now ."

The move comes amid increasingly heated debate over the expiring Bush tax cuts, reports Politico. Democrats Evan Bayh, Ben Nelson, and Jim Webb are voicing concern that such a move amounts to a tax hike, with Independent Joe Lieberman joining their ranks today. Harry Reid came out blazing, calling it "unconscionable" for the GOP "to hold middle-class tax cuts hostage in order to secure more tax giveaways for millionaires and CEOs who ship American jobs overseas."
